Euphoria guest star Colman Domingo envisions a much different setting for the students at East Highlands High School when the delayed third season of the gritty drama finally returns to HBO in 2025.
“It'll take place in a nursing home in southeast Los Angeles,” quips Domingo, 54, who plays Ali, a tough 12-step sponsor for recovering addict Rue (played by Emmy-winning star Zendaya).
Nearly two years after the second season of the acclaimed series ended on February 27, 2022, Domingo confirms season 3 is set to begin filming this year.
But other than that detail, Domingo — who won an Emmy in 2022 for his performance — tells PEOPLE, “I can share nothing.” That’s, in part, because he hasn’t read any scripts. “I haven’t seen anything, but I do know that Sam’s very excited about it,” he says of creator Sam Levinson.

At the end of season 2, Euphoria left off with young Ashtray (Javon Walton) was gunned down in a standoff with police. Drug dealer Fez (Angus Cloud) was also shot — potentially fatally — as he begged his adopted younger brother to surrender.
Cloud died of an accidental drug overdose in August. How he will be written out of the series is not yet known, but Domingo says his death is a “significant loss” to those who loved him.
“He was a young man who struggled, but he was such a bright light. He truly was. People say that about people all the time, but this was true. He was kind, he was warm, and he just had a spark,” continues Domingo.

As for the other characters, Rue remained sober “through the rest of the school year,” she said in a voiceover. “I wish I could say that was a decision I made, in some ways, it was just easier. I don’t know if this feeling will last forever, but I am trying.”
Her relationship with ex Jules (Hunter Schafer) remains a question mark, as does Cassie’s (Sydney Sweeney) standing with frenemy Maddie (Alexa Demie) and ex-lover Nate (Jacob Elordi), who dumped her at the end of the season.
Barbie Ferreira, who played Kat, announced in 2022 that she would not return for the third season, later telling Dax Shepard on his Armchair Expert podcast: “I don’t think there was a place for [Kat] to go.”
